About
About Omar Mashharawi
Commercial steel since 2008, in Riyadh. This site is where the tools and notes from that work are published.
Who I am
I'm Omar Mashharawi, a commercial and sales professional in the steel industry, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I have worked in steel since 2008: in sales, business development, pricing, customer relationships and team leadership.
Alongside that career I build software. The problems came first: information re-entered by hand, decisions waiting on a spreadsheet, work that depends on one person remembering a detail. Code is the next tool for the same problems.
Work
- Section Head, Al Rajhi Steel Co., Riyadh (2018 to present). Sales management, business development and commercial operations. Export sales increased by 80%; pricing policies that improved channel profitability and reduced pricing conflicts.
- Sales Manager, Al Musairiey Metallic Industries (2010 to 2018). Wholesale division, regional market coverage, sales targets and pricing.
- Sales Executive, Arabian Steel Pipes (2008 to 2010). Customer relationships, account management and market analysis.
What you will find on this site
- Tools. Calculators for reinforcing steel and structural section weights that run in your browser, plus desktop software such as RebarPlan for bar bending schedules. They exist because I needed them in day-to-day work.
- Writing. Notes on the commercial side of steel: weights, tolerances, quantities, and what ends up on the invoice. Published here first, then shared on LinkedIn.
How the content is written
Every note and tool on this site is written by me. Where a figure comes from a standard, the note names the standard. Calculations show the formula they use, so you can check them by hand.
If you find an error, email [email protected] and I will correct it.
